“All children do play and want to play, regardless of their abilities.”

All children do play and want to play, regardless of their abilities. That is why KBT aims to be at the forefront of creating ‘safe playgrounds for everyone, everywhere’. Children and adults with a handicap experience numerous practical as well as social barriers every day. They have to navigate in a world that is generally not adapted to their abilities. KBT is engaged to help create better play infrastructure, where all children and parents feel welcome and can participate in a rich play experience, adapted to their needs.

To create play accessories for all children, we design our product range with a few basic principles in mind. If you are planning the design of a playground, these are guidelines you can use as well.

  • KBT products are simple and intuitive to use, are open-ended and allow for free play
  • KBT products are safe
  • KBT strives to offer a range of products for all children, regardless of their abilities. When products are difficult to use by all, we look for an alternative
  • KBT products always have a lot of play value and allow for multi-sensory experiences
  • KBT products encourage all forms of social play and are accessible or usable by adults to encourage a rich adult-child play experience

Many KBT products are inclusive by the nature of their design. Our group swings, wide slide or imagination items are examples of products that can easily be incorporated in an inclusive playground site. We know that we still have many steps to take before all playgrounds and accessories are truly inclusive. In our ongoing projects we aim to improve our current product range, to create practical guidelines on how best to use our products and to design and create new challenging play experiences for all.

Our Inclusive Play projects start from a cocreative and research based approach as we work with experience experts and researchers in different fields to build knowledge about inclusive play. We also welcome all input from the market. If you have experience or input you can contribute, questions about inclusive design or you need support in choosing the right equipment for your site, don’t hesitate to contact the sales representative in your region and tune in to our social media to follow up on our work.
